Creamy smooth and sweet…

We’d go so far as to say it was startlingly sweet. We weren’t expecting that. We were expecting a barely sweet, creamy black sesame paste that was deep, dark and full of roasted sesame flavor. Instead, the sweetness reminds us of the super sweetness that is nutella. But, here, they substitute black sesame paste for chocolate and hazelnut butter.
We still love it. It just took a moment to readjust our expectations.
Spread it on toast, a buttery ritz crisp, a pretzel, or a cookie. It all works.
Love it!
(No, really, we’re serious. We might love it even more than we love nutella. And, that’s not faint praise. We really (REALLY!) love nutella. It’s a certain someone’s kryponite. Ok, so, we probably don’t love it more than nutella. But, it’s in the same ballpark.)

Seafood Salad
Shrimp, scallops, squid, basil, jalapeños, scallions, romaine, minced garlic, onion and carrot slivers in a light dressing of rice wine vinegar and fish sauce, we still love it.
All of the seafood was tender and full of flavor.

Gorgeously Grilled Artichoke
Tender and smoky, these were delicious.
Blood Orange Margarita
This was a fresh balance of blood orange juice, orange liqueur, orange bitters and a very healthy kick of tequila. It was a perfect early day cocktail.
But, next time? It’ll be Murphy’s Manhattan.
Wild Shrimp Scampi
Wow, just wow. Simply put, these shrimp were too good for words.
These extravagantly plump and tender shrimp were topping a bed of fluffy risotto, field peas, asparagus, kale and spinach. If the shrimp are always this divine, we could eat this dish every day for the rest of our lives.

Blackberry Julep
Murphy’s blend Angel’s Envy bourbon, fresh blackberries, mint and soda, add ice and you have captured summer. Fresh, sweet (but, not too sweet), tart and alive, what more can you ask for? It’s a grown up liquid dessert in a julep cup. More, please.

Tender slices of chicken dominated this rich dish. Potatoes merely played a supporting role. But, the sweetness of the coconut milk balanced beautifully with the gentle heat of Thai Star’s curry spices. Rich with coconut milk, onion slices and deep roasted peanuts, we enjoyed every bite.
Without a doubt, we’ll be back.

This dish brings back memories. One of us was enjoying her very last semester’s rush of finals, it was a time to relax and enjoy. And, it was our first real formal date at a seriously nice (on a college student’s budget) restaurant. We were complete novices to world of sushi. (And, more than likely, we always will be.) We were dipping our toes into the world of sushi and sashimi. And, we were loving it. We were visiting our current favorite sushi spot in Miami. We decided to branch out on the menu and try a specialty roll or two. When it arrived at the table, we’d never seen a maki roll with a broiled topping. We both looked at each other. We were a little surprised. But, we were eager to try this new thing. And, that new thing looked almost identical to this photo (above). So, we have to love this dish. We just can’t help ourselves.
Nothing compares to the gloriously sweet rush of the sea that scallops provide. But, the delicious richness of uni, ikura, toro, and unagi (Loved it! It’s gorgeous and quite delicious, here.) come very close.
On this day, Toro had a market price of $18 for two pieces.

Someone really likes the smoked sweet potato and kale dish. Sadly, all three of our portions were mostly sweet potato with only a random leaf of kale here and there. It was still tasty. But, we were both craving more kale. We’re starting to wish the kale would make a starring role as its very own side dish.

Ultimate Mango
Mango ice gets a thin drizzle of sweetened condensed milk and mango syrup. Then, fresh mango chunks cover the top and another drizzle of condensed milk and mango syrup join the cherry on top. It’s really popping with mango flavor. We never would have guessed the sweetened condensed milk could be so pleasant. It adds a sweet, creamy touch to the perfectly tart mango slices. If you love mango, this is the perfect mango dessert for summer.
This was a signature SunO option. But, we’ve forgotten the name of it. The chocolate has a very light flavor. And, the richness of the peanuts and peanut butter cups are a bit too much. We’ll definitely be sticking to the more traditional flavor combinations and the fruit ices with fruit toppings.
