Sobban Korean Southern Diner

Braised Cod, Daikon, & Watercress

Korean Fried Chicken

…And, Kimchi Miso Kale
(in back)

Four pieces of fried chicken were dipped in a mostly sweet, barely spicy glaze.  Then, they were sprinkled with slivers of fresh chilis and toasty sesame seeds that added a touch of crunch and a burst of rich sesame flavor.

Good Food, Awkward Seating

In this very small restaurant there is one table for two inside.  The only other tables for two are outside (nearest the road).  And, we were told the round tables with umbrellas were reserved for parties of six.  We hope those are four cozy parties.  The remaining indoor seating is one long bar along the window, one communal table for 8, two booths for 4 and one table for 5.

Cocktails

Blue Crab Churros

We could have wrapped these up with the tortillas, guac (oh wait, that was avocado & jalapeño mayonnaise), slaw and cilantro.  But, why?

These were hush puppy fingers jazzed up with blue crab.  We enjoyed them as is.

Starters

Chicken Fried Poached Eggs

In a word, these were lovely.

The truffle gravy and mix of mushrooms?  Intoxicatingly good.
(The intense, woodsy flavor of that little one (cinnamon cap?) was enough to inspire an across town search for them.)

Seafood Mélange

A variety of type and grind to the grits added a supremely creamy background for those gorgeously seared scallops and shrimp.

Mains

Hot milk Cake with Salted Caramel Sauce

&

Milk Chocolate Rum Raisin Ice Cream

Delicious from start to finish, brunch deserves to be treated this well at every restaurant.

Tipsy Pig BBQ

Tipsy Pig Ribs

Perfect Picnic Food

Tender, smoky ribs touched with a sweet & spicy glaze, they were incredible… AGAIN!  Every time we forget just how good these ribs are.  And, every time we are blown away by the perfect harmony of smoke, rich pork, and appropriate use of glaze that only adds to the delicious barbecue, never hiding it or overpowering it.

Don’t Forget The Spicy BBQ Sauce

Take a mound of pulled pork and drown it in Brunswick stew, that’s Tipsy Pig’s version of Brunswick stew.  The macaroni and cheese was very rich and cheese-y, too.

Pulled Pork Sandwich

Even after a detour and a walk through the park, our sandwich was still showcasing warm, tender, and smoky meat.  Add a little of their spicy barbecue sauce and you have one fabulous pulled pork sandwich.

We really love this place.

There’s another sign and a smoker at the intersection to help you find this little gem tucked inside of a Shell gas station.

Hours
(Ribs on Friday, Saturday, & Sunday ONLY!)

There are two or three tables at Tipsy Pig.  But, we like to take our feast to Ronald Reagan Park.
(2777 Five Forks Trickum Road, Lawrenceville, GA)

It’s just a quiet little park with a couple paved, winding paths.

High Road Craft Ice Creams

Roasted Coconut Kaffir & Pistachio Honey Ricotta

Aztec Chocolate & Caramel

We couldn’t decide on one flavor.  So, we went home with three.  All three were uniquely delicious in their own individual ways.  Richly layered with serious flavor, they demand (and deserve) your full attention.

The roasted coconut kaffir was littered with TONS of chunky pieces of roasted coconut.  If you love coconut, you’ll love this one.

Aztec Chocolate will remind you of the best frozen hot chocolate with a gentle kick that you’ve ever tasted.  Rich chocolate and just the right touch of spice, the flavor is divine.  The texture reminded us more of a sorbet than a gelato.  So, that was a little bit of a negative for us.  But, it’s the deep dark chocolate flavor touched with a whisper of heat that makes your throat tingle that will keep us coming back for more.

The sweetest and the creamiest of the bunch was the Pistachio Honey Ricotta.  This flavor hints and teases you with memories of a cannoli.  But, it’s something much more lovely.  It’s lighter and more delicate.  The flavors touch you gently with a background of honey that adds incredible depth to the nutty pistachio and the creamy ricotta.  This one is something really special.

Deep Fried Everything

Onion Rings…

Deep Fried Oreos, Deep Fried Twinkies…

Deep Fried Snickers

And, Deep Fried Pecan Pie, Too

Now, this was ridiculously delicious.
(Even if it was a packaged slice of mass manufactured pie, we’d eat this again in a heartbeat.  Guilty pleasure, hell yeah.  Do we feel guilty?  No! Not even for a second.)

Smoothies & Fresh Lemonade, Too

There’s a ride for everyone.

Young and Old…

This was a great way to spend a lazy day.

Blue Moon Pizza

Cobb Salad

With Cayenne Candied Bacon

If we make a return visit, this is what we’ll be eating.  The bacon was incredibly good.  Equal parts crispy, smoky, sweet and a little bit spicy, it made the salad.  And, it’s a HUGE one, too.  The four wedges of crispy, herb dusted baked pizza dough (roughly the 10″ pizza size?) add to the hearty feel of this salad.

Jerk Pizza

Topping heavy (and heavily dusted with a dried spice blend) with a crisp cracker-y crust…

It was very interesting and unique.

All the pizzas are topping heavy with a bit of a dated vibe.  Since we’re not crazy about the dough, that’s probably a good thing even with the dated feel that seems to surround them.  If we’re in the area and in need of a quick weekday lunch, we’d visit again.  And, we’d order the cobb salad.

Brain Masala & Buttered Naan

Buttered Naan

In a word, it was divine.

Spicy Fried Fish

On the menu, it’s simply called Fish Fry.

Wow… Just WOW!

This is another must eat… very soon.

Beef Samosas

Rolled in thin, flaky sheets of pastry, these were gorgeously spiced and delicious.  Next time, we’ll be trying the chicken samosas.

1910 Public House

Fried Pickles

Lightly breaded with a crisp, flaky batter, these sweet and spicy pickles were a great way to start our meal.

Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan Brown Ale
(And, a nice glass of Sangiovese)

1910 Burger With Pimento Cheese & Fries

Both very nicely done, but, we seriously demolished the fries.  They were super crisp, piping hot and full of flavor.  And, we loved the delicate use of coarse salt flakes.

Grilled Chicken Po-Boy With Bacon Jam

This was a tasty little sandwich.  There was a nice spice to the grilled chicken.  And, the bacon jam added a touch of sweet, smoky complexity.  The only itty bitty low note was the rather ordinary bun.

Small Plates

Sandwiches & Salads

Some little things might still be a work in progress.  But, this place is charming.

Cherians

Onion & Herb Pakora

5 pieces for $2.49

They’re crispy, more veggies than batter and still hot, too?

We LOVE these!  They’re too good.

Four very large samosas for the same price, one of each could easily be a vegetarian meal.

The curried potato filling is mild, but quite nice.  Dotted with cilantro (and lentils?, maybe) and stuffed into a rich, flaky dough, we’d love to eat these any day for lunch.

We really love this Indo-Pak grocery store.  It’s a real gem of a store.  Between the ready to eat counter and the gorgeously green pistachios, we’re happy.  And, that’s before we even get to the fresh coconuts, fresh and dry herbs, rice, beans and plenty more.

Squash Blossoms @ Fiesta Farmer’s Market

Pumpkin Squash Blossoms

Some were gorgeous.

Others were not quite as nice.  This might not be our favorite market.  But, it has some interesting finds if you’re willing to take some time to sort the good from the bad.  And,if you’re looking to cook up an economical meal.  This is the place.  The prices are quite low.

3 for $1.00
(And, it was packaged ready to go.)

As you can imagine, for that price our expectations were extremely low.  Since it was already shucked, we just gave it a thorough wash.  Then, we charred it up on the grill.  The result was some shockingly sweet corn.

It’s what’s for dinner!

We added a salad of baby greens, cilantro, radishes, tomatoes, crumbled queso fresco, a sprinkle of chili powder, a splash of olive oil and a drizzle of lime.  It was a fast and delicious weekday meal for less than $10.  Leftover corn was cut off the cob and topped another big bowl of salad the next day.
