The Setting: Two intimate rooms surrounded by glass, one filled with hightop tables & a bar and the other offers tables & chairs with a handful of booths.
The Staff: Friendly and attentive
The Food: With temperatures dipping lower and lower, Holeman & Finch is just what the doctor ordered. Rich, savory, and full of flavor… We sampled the house cured meats plate and pimento cheese with handmade crackers to start. Our server hinted that the house cured meats might be available for sale in the future (at the nearby bakery, maybe? …I can only hope). We followed this with the braised beef short rib with two perfectly fried onion rings on a bed of perfectly creamy potatoes and tabasco fried quail with a creamy tabasco sauce. And, finally, we finished with a sticky toffee pudding that might just be the best version of this dish that I’ve ever had the fortune to taste. Brown sugar buttery perfection served warm. Each bite was coated with just enough ooey gooey brown sugar caramel sauce to saturate the “pudding”. Tiny bits of pecan added a complexity that rounded out the decadently rich flavors of brown sugar and butter.
From start to finish, this was the perfect taste of fall.
