Calvin Borel on a 50-1 longshot wins the Derby by 6 3/4 lengths. That’s the second largest margin after Assault with an eight length margin in 1946. Mine That Bird ran 1 1/4 miles in 2:02.66 minutes and paid $103.20 to win. The second highest paying odds since Donerail won with 91-1 odds in 1913. Giacamo, winner of the 2005 Derby, also won with 50-1 odds.
Calvin Borel expresses his dedication and the mindset that makes him a winner with a few simple words, “I don’t care if it’s a $5,000 horse or a million dollar horse, I’m still going to give it 110 percent.”
Congratulations to Calvin Borel, Benny “Chip” Woolley, Mark Allen and Leonard Blach!!
