The Setting: Just inside 285 on La Vista Road, the entrance is a bit odd. You walk into what appears to be a hotel lobby. If you walk forward, you’re in the bar. But, if you turn off to the left, you’ll find plenty of booth and table seating. Next time, maybe we’ll find our way to the rooftop to enjoy the music (it’s piped into the restaurant, too). On Thursdays, they have four musicians. On Fridays and Saturdays, they have three.
The Staff: Friendly
The Food: On our first visit, we chose a “Cuban Style” sandwich and a “Steak House” burger. The burger was the clear winner. But, both were tasty.
Slow Roasted Pressed Pork “Cuban Style” — While billed as slow roasted, the pork was unexpectedly tough. The chimmichurri added a good dose of flavor. And, luckily, I opted to leave off the Chipotle BBQ sauce. I can’t imagine this sauce adding to the taste of the sandwich.
“Steak House” Burger — REALLY good! We were happily surprised to find our burger perfectly cooked. Topped with a marinated portabello, swiss cheese, carmelized onion and Maker’s Mark steak sauce, this burger sounds overwhelming. But, the toppings are nicely proportioned. We’ll be back for this burger again!
Is it your first time at Marlow’s Tavern? If so, you might be rewarded with a free order of house-made potato chips topped with a really tasty blue cheese sauce. We were! (This “welcome to Marlow’s” starter was even better than our purchased order of truffled parmesan fries.)
