Calm Before The Storm
Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits
This is smooth sailing, to be sure.
Smooth and delicately mild for the most part, this one was a real shocker. We didn’t hate it at all. We thought that we’d hate it. We were quite sure that we would. But, no, it’s too interesting to hate. The coffee layers in there nicely with the rich cream ale. And, the sweet scent of vanilla teeters on the edge of balance with the pleasantly bitter coffee. The sweetness might fill your senses, but, it doesn’t overpower the taste of the ale. This collaboration of flavors works so much better than it has a right to. One bottle (or two) will find it’s way into a loaf of home made bread. We’re sure of that. Actually, we’d go so far as to say that making a loaf of bread with this ale will be a priority in the very near future.
Sadly, we can’t say that we love this one. We do find it very interesting. At the end of the day, all of those flavors are a bit busy after a few sips. We’d have to say it’s a bit too busy for our taste.
