Dobb’s Bar-B-Que
Burger
In the bright light of day, the charm of our first visit was clearly lost. The nicest thing we can say about that burger? “No Comment.” The bun was ice cold and dense. The cheese was mostly cold and refusing to melt. The lettuce and tomato were both cold. And, the fries were cold… not luke warm… cold.
BBQ Half Chicken
The chicken was still mostly tender on this visit. The exception was the breast. It was more than a little bit dry and chewy. But, the real issue was the flavor of this chicken. The flavor was off… way off. Without the barbecue sauce, the flaws were excruciatingly evident. Every bite of chicken came with an overpowering salty kick to the taste buds. We’re pretty sure that this was due to an over-brining of the chicken. Another horrible side effect of the overly salty chicken was a lingering metallic taste… possibly from iodized salt?
(Once, we bought pieces of chicken with this flavor at a grocery store. Once. Never again. Ever since, we’ve carefully avoided the inexpensive brands of chicken. We’re sure some companies in a scheme to make money would love to sell salt water bloated chicken pieces. We hear salt water comes pretty cheap.)
The camp stew was rather unpleasant. We believe some sort of bean had either been ground into bits in there or this was boiled to the point of mush. It had the texture of gritty baby food.
Most of the sides must be ordered separately. The plate or platters come with a side salad and fries. This time the dressing was added without our consent. That’s not a big deal. No one really digs eagerly into an iceberg lettuce salad with excitement. And, we weren’t eager for another round of spongy (not fresh) iceberg lettuce. We didn’t comment on this last time. We thought that it might be a fluke. But, on two separate visits, the lettuce has been a bit less than fresh.
Second visit…
Sadly, it was charm-free. We seriously doubt there will be a third visit.
